Savage Dragon #14 (September 1994) serves as the debut of UnderMind, a cybernetic telepath who goes on to become a persistent Vicious Circle foot soldier across decades of the series. The issue also seeds one of the series' most unsettling long-form plot threads: a leech-like creature attaches itself to the back of Dragon's neck, setting in motion a body-horror storyline that would ripple through subsequent issues. History

Erik Larsen wrote, pencilled, and inked every issue of the ongoing Savage Dragon series from its 1993 launch, maintaining sole creative control as part of the creator-owned ethos central to Image Comics' founding. Issue #14 arrived during the series' first sustained action arc, roughly bracketed by the 'Possessed' storyline later collected in Savage Dragon Volume 4. Larsen's hands-on production model — he also handled plotting and letters coordination — meant each issue was a direct, unmediated expression of his storytelling vision, an increasingly rare arrangement in mainstream superhero publishing at the time.
