In "Chapter 1 The Lawgiver," peace in a shared human-ape village shatters when the Lawgiver ventures into the forbidden zone, triggering a violent rampage by gorillas. The attack leaves Alexander’s father and Jason’s mother and father dead, and as Jason sets out on foot to track down the killers, he finds himself outmatched by the gorillas riding horses through the wilds.
In "Chapter Two: Fugitives On the Planet of the Apes," Jason and Alexander are captured by Brutus, the power-hungry leader who has seized control of the village and declared war on all humans. With Jason condemned to die on false charges, Alexander must choose between survival and risking everything to help him flee.
In *Planet of the Apes*, three astronauts—Taylor, Dodge, and Landon—awaken on a mysterious planet after years in suspended animation, only to find a world where humans are enslaved and apes rule with terrifying authority. As Taylor watches in shock, apes on horseback open fire on the humans, killing Dodge and Landon, before capturing him.

- Contains two comics features: Part 1 of the original serial 'Terror on the Planet of the Apes' (script by Doug Moench from an idea by Gerry Conway; art by Mike Ploog) and Part 1 of a serialized adaptation of the 1968 film (script by Moench; pencils by George Tuska; inks by Mike Esposito).

- The film-adaptation segment from this issue was also reprinted in color in Adventures on the Planet of the Apes #1 (Marvel, 1975), which colorized and reformatted the Curtis magazine's movie adaptations for a standard newsstand comic audience.
