Marvel Masterworks #2
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThis volume collects the first ten issues of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby's groundbreaking run on The Fantastic Four, presented in Marvel's high-quality Masterworks format. It includes the debut of the team, their battles with iconic foes like the Mole Man and the Skrulls, and the introduction of Doctor Doom, establishing the cornerstone of the Marvel Universe.
In "The Fantastic Four Meet the Skrulls From Outer Space!", the team undertakes a daring mission behind enemy lines, infiltrating the Skrull mothership and assuming the identities of their spies. Using clever deception and a cache of old Marvel comics as cover, Mr. Fantastic tries to convince the Skrulls that Earth’s defenses are too formidable to overcome—before the real battle begins.
In "The Coming of the Sub-Mariner!", the Thing confronts the colossal Giganto with a bomb, ending the threat in a fiery explosion. As the dust settles, the Human Torch sweeps the Sub-Mariner and the fallen giant into the sea, leaving the Atlantean warrior to vow, "I'll be back!"
In "Prisoners of Doctor Doom!", the villainous Doctor Doom takes the Invisible Girl hostage to control her teammates, trapping the Fantastic Four in his American fortress. He sends the Human Torch, the Thing, and Mr. Fantastic into the past to retrieve Blackbeard’s lost treasure, where the Thing assumes Blackbeard’s identity and commands a pirate ship. As Doom prepares to eliminate the team upon their return, the Invisible Girl intervenes to save them—only for Doom to escape using his jetpack.
In "Prisoners of the Puppet Master!", the cunning villain orchestrates a daring jailbreak not for freedom, but to demonstrate his power. When Invisible Girl sends a desperate signal to her teammates, the Puppet Master retreats upon facing the united might of the Fantastic Four.
In "The Return of Doctor Doom!", the brilliant and ruthless Doom returns to Earth with the aid of the enigmatic Ovoids, using their advanced technology to execute a daring plan: he swaps bodies with Mr. Fantastic, leaving the hero trapped in Doom’s shell. As the battle of wits and wills begins, the line between mastermind and captive blurs in a clash of intellect and ambition.
