Little Dot herself predates this issue by years — she first appeared in Harvey's Sad Sack Comics in 1949, and was redesigned by art director Warren Kremer for her own self-titled series launching in September 1953, a book that simultaneously introduced Richie Rich and Little Lotta as backup features. By issue #8, Kremer was supplying the covers while Steve Muffatti and Marty Taras handled interior art and stories, a division of labor typical of Harvey's efficient production workflow during the early-to-mid 1950s. The question of who originally conceived Richie Rich has never been definitively settled: publisher Alfred Harvey, editor Sid Jacobson, and artist Warren Kremer have each been cited as the character's primary creator across multiple contemporary and retrospective sources.
