Invincible #30
Issue thirty of Robert Kirkman and Ryan Ottley's Invincible delivers a quietly breathtaking moment: the blue-and-black-suited hero drifts in the void of space, back turned to the reader, with the full curve of the Earth glowing behind him. The composition — cover pencils by Ottley and inks by Cliff Rathburn — trades action for atmosphere, framing Invincible as a solitary figure suspended between the stars and the planet he protects. It's a reminder that by 2006, this Image series had earned its boastful cover tagline, "Probably the best superhero comic book in the universe.
