About this Collection

The House of M Companion Omnibus gathers roughly a decade's worth of satellite stories orbiting Brian Michael Bendis's 2005 House of M event, making it the most comprehensive single volume ever assembled around that alternate-reality pocket universe (Earth-58163), where Magneto's family rules a mutant-dominant world. The prelude material — Chris Claremont's Excalibur (2004) #8–14, set on Genosha — is historically significant because it places Professor X, Magneto, and a catatonic Scarlet Witch at center stage immediately before the event, establishing Wanda Maximoff's psychological breakdown as the direct catalyst for everything that follows and fleshing out the Xavier/Magneto friendship-and-rivalry dynamic that drives the entire saga. The Christos Gage/Mike Perkins miniseries House of M: Avengers functions as the in-universe origin story of Luke Cage's Human Resistance Movement, filling in the alternate-history gaps Bendis left open. Taken together, these works demonstrate how Marvel systematically extended a single continuity-reshaping event across multiple creative teams and story modes — prelude, aftermath, origin, What If?, and Secret Wars revival — a publishing model that became standard for major event books.

History

The omnibus was solicited in Diamond's December 2023 catalog (order code DEC230756) with a Final Order Cut-off date of January 27, 2024, and was released on July 23–24, 2024 under the Marvel/PRH distribution partnership, edited under Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski. Its contents span publication dates from 2004 (Excalibur vol. 3) through 2015 (House of M vol. 2, the Secret Wars Battleworld tie-in), meaning the volume effectively archives an entire era of House of M-adjacent publishing in one roughly 800-page hardcover. The cover image on the standard edition reprints Mike Perkins artwork from Civil War: House of M #2, while a direct-market variant carries a cover by Mike Deodato Jr.; Aaron Lopresti is credited as the primary interior artist for the lead Excalibur chapters. Writers assembled across this companion include Chris Claremont, Brian Michael Bendis, Christos Gage, Cullen Bunn, Dennis Hopeless, Sean McKeever, Frank Tieri, and Brian Reed, reflecting the broad editorial coordination Marvel used to sustain the House of M brand across multiple years.

Trivia · 8 facts

  • Released July 23–24, 2024 by Marvel Comics (Diamond SKU DEC230756); approximately 800 pages; rated T+.
  • Collects Excalibur (2004) #8–14, New Avengers (2004) #16–20, House of M: Avengers #1–5, Civil War: House of M #1–5, House of M: Masters of Evil #1–4, What If? Spider-Man: House of M, House of M (2015) #1–4, and material from What If? House of M.
  • The Excalibur (2004) chapters, written by Chris Claremont with art by Aaron Lopresti, serve as the official prelude to the House of M event; they depict Professor X and Magneto on Genosha attempting to stabilize the mentally fractured Scarlet Witch (Wanda Maximoff), with Doctor Strange also called in to assist.
  • New Avengers (2004) #16–20, written by Brian Michael Bendis, provides the direct aftermath of House of M, answering the mystery of the anomalous energy cloud hovering in orbit after House of M #8 and confronting the New Avengers with the consequences of Wanda's 'No more mutants' declaration.
  • House of M: Avengers #1–5 (2007), written by Christos Gage with art by Mike Perkins, is a five-issue prequel miniseries depicting the formation of Luke Cage's Human Resistance Movement across a timespan from 1979 to the present day of the alternate Earth-58163 reality, showing how Cage recruited Hawkeye, Iron Fist, Moon Knight, Mockingbird, and others.
  • Civil War: House of M #1–5, set after the Gage/Perkins series, depicts how Magneto conquered the world and made mutants the dominant species, and also establishes that Charles Xavier (Professor X) is dead within the House of M pocket reality.
  • House of M (2015) #1–4, by Dennis Hopeless with art by Marco Failla, is a Secret Wars Battleworld tie-in set on Doctor Doom's patchwork planet; it revisits the House of Magnus family — including Pietro Maximoff (Quicksilver), Lorna Dane (Polaris), and Wanda — and frames their conflicts as a dynastic civil war.
  • Two cover variants were published: a standard edition featuring Mike Perkins cover art (reprinted from Civil War: House of M #2) and a direct-market exclusive with a Mike Deodato Jr. cover.
