Gwandanaland Comics #2331-A
In "Unknown Menace," a test pilot awakens to find a viking sailor and a young woman standing outside his cockpit—only to learn he’s stumbled into a dreamer’s world, a realm where the dead and the lost converge. As he and the woman flee toward the jet, the line between reality and vision blurs, leaving him with a haunting mystery when she vanishes and reappears in a room of smoldering chemicals. Written by Joe Gill and illustrated with striking precision by Steve Ditko—whose inks give the surreal setting its eerie depth—this 2019 Gwandanaland Comics standout features a cover by Maurice Whitman that captures the story’s unsettling atmosphere.

A test pilot sees a viking sailor and a young woman standing outside his cockpit. He exits his plane to speak with them. The viking tells him that he has entered a "dreamer's world," where people like him end up when they die. The woman protests that she's not dead, and the pilot realizes that she must be in trouble in the real world. The pilot grabs her by the hand and the two of them make a break for the jet cockpit. Once he lands, she is nowhere in sight, but he finds her passed out in a room of dangerous smoldering chemicals. She revives and recognizes him as the man from her vision.
