But when he spots a hen in peril from a chicken hawk, his careful cover starts to unravel—just as he’s about to learn what it truly means to be a farm hand, even if only for a moment. Written by Vic Lockman and brought to life with dynamic art by Carl Barks, this 1959 classic features a cover by Tony Strobl.
In "The Flying Farm Hand," Dumbo the duck arrives at the farm to help out, quickly proving his worth as a scarecrow. When Brer Fox steals corn and plots to raid the barnyard using the scarecrow’s old clothes, Dumbo and the other animals must work together to outwit the clever fox.
In "A Honey of a Hen," Scrooge pretends to be injured at Grandma's farm to extend his stay and savor her cooking, but his ruse unravels when he rushes to save a hen from a chicken hawk—proving his true colors aren’t quite as cold as his usual demeanor.
In "The Weather Watchers," Gyro puts his clever mind to work building a mechanical weather-vane for Grandma's farm, but when Grandma's goat takes an unexpected interest, the device starts spinning wildly—spewing out increasingly dramatic forecasts that send the whole farm into a tizzy.
In "The Sheepish Cowboys," Jo and her cousins find themselves riding sheep after their horse bolts, only to discover the entire flock is following their lead. Trapped in a gully, they're soon confronted by the Big Bad Wolf, who's not quite ready for this kind of herd.
