Fantastic Four #208

The Sphinx dominates this July 1979 cover, surging forward with crackling energy and proclaiming "At last — I possess the power!" and "Now nothing that lives can stop the Sphinx!" — a villain radiating genuine menace in his teal-and-purple regalia. Behind him, all four members of Marvel's First Family are visible: the Thing charges in from the left, Mr. Fantastic stretches across the right, and the Human Torch and Invisible Woman appear in portrait circles along the top. Cover pencils by Dave Cockrum and Keith Pollard, inked by Joe Sinnott, set up what promises to be a thrilling confrontation between an unstoppable foe and the world's greatest super-team.
