La malédiction de Gog et Magog se déchaîne sur Albracca. Brunello et Satyricus sauvent Valda enlevée par Haakon. Arak et Valda commencent à développer une relation amoureuse. Un sorcier tartare réfugié invoque une salamandre cracheuse de feu, qu'Arak doit éliminer. La menace passée, les amis se séparent. A Byzance, Arak et Satyricus participent à un combat de chars lors d'un tournoi. Arak rencontre aussi une prêtresse païenne. Arak, Satyricus et Dyanna s'évadent de Byzance. Ensuite, Arak tue un homme prétendant être le grand prêtre d'Artémis et en le tuant Arak devient le grand prêtre.
