Archie's Pal Jughead #110

Jul 1964 · Archie · 0.12 USD
“The Catalyst”

In "The Catalyst," Jughead's latest culinary experiment—a two-foot-long hamburger—lands him in hot water when Pop kicks him out, but the oversized sandwich soon proves its worth when Jughead uses it to fend off a hoodlum. With Betty by his side, the duo turns the massive meal into a surprisingly effective weapon against a pair of troublemaking hooligans, earning a surprising new name for the sandwich and a second chance at Pop's shop. Written by Frank Doyle and illustrated by Samm Schwartz—whose distinctive art defines the entire issue, from story to cover—this 1964 classic blends humor, heart, and a touch of chaos in a single, memorable meal.

Pop kicks Jughead out for creating a hamburger that's two-feet long. Outside the shop, he uses the over-sized sandwich to beat a hoodlum. Betty treats Jughead and herself to two of the hamburgers at Pop's. When two other hoodlums come in and start trashing the Chok'lit Shoppe, Betty and Jughead use the two over-sized hamburgers to beat them silly. Pop is so happy about it he names the new sandwich the "Jughead Burgerino."
