Sonny Trinidad
Celso L. "Sonny" Trinidad was a Filipino comics artist born on July 28, 1934, who died on November 23, 2009. He is best remembered in the United States for his work at Marvel Comics during the mid-1970s. Trinidad began his career in the Philippines before bringing his distinctive style to American audiences. His most notable contributions include art and inks on *Planet of the Apes*, *The Son of Satan*, *The Savage Sword of Conan*, *Conan Saga*, *Skull the Slayer*, and *Tomahawk*. He collaborated with writers and editors who valued his detailed, atmospheric linework, which lent a gritty texture to horror and fantasy titles. Trinidad co-created the series *Skull the Slayer* and contributed to the *Son of Satan* mythos. His later years saw him return to the Philippines, where he continued to work sporadically in comics until 2010. While he did not receive major industry awards, his legacy endures among collectors of 1970s Marvel horror and sword-and-sorcery comics, where his moody, expressive art remains a defining element of that era.
