Scott R. Kurtz
Scott R. Kurtz, born March 15, 1971, is an American webcomic artist who helped pioneer the medium as one of its first professional creators. He is best known for writing and drawing *PvP*, a daily online comic strip that launched in 1998 and became a cornerstone of the early webcomics boom. The series, set in a video game magazine office, blended workplace humor with geek culture and ran for over two decades.
Kurtz entered comics through self-publishing online, a path that was still novel at the time. His clean, expressive linework and sharp dialogue defined *PvP*’s signature style. He collaborated with fellow webcomic artists like Kris Straub and Jerry Holkins, and his work appeared in print collections and syndicated newspapers. He also contributed to the anthology *The Amazing Spider-Man* and other mainstream titles.
Later in his career, Kurtz continued to evolve *PvP* while exploring other projects, including the webcomic *Table Titans*. His influence on digital comics is widely recognized, and he received the Eisner Award for Best Digital Comic in 2008. He remains active in the industry, a testament to his lasting impact on the form.
