Steve Oliff, born February 20, 1954, is an American colorist who has shaped the look of comics for nearly five decades. Working under the studio name Olyoptics, he entered the industry in 1978 and built a reputation as one of the more technically sophisticated colorists of his generation, particularly during the transition from traditional hand-separated color to computer-assisted techniques — a shift he helped pioneer in mainstream comics.

His catalog spans more than 260 credited issues across a career stretching from 1979 into the mid-2020s. He is most closely associated with Image Comics titles of the 1990s, including *Spawn*, *The Maxx*, *Pitt*, and *Cyberforce*, as well as *Airboy* and *Strikeback!* — work that placed him at the center of an era when color itself was becoming a more expressive storytelling tool rather than a purely functional one.

Oliff's approach brought a painterly depth and atmospheric moodiness to the pages he colored, qualities that made him a sought-after collaborator for artists whose linework rewarded careful tonal interpretation. His contributions helped establish higher expectations for color in the American mainstream at a pivotal moment in the industry's history.
