Steve Oliff, born February 20, 1954, is an American colorist whose work under the studio name Olyoptics has shaped the visual texture of comics for more than four decades. He entered the industry in 1978, and his catalog credits stretch from 1979 through at least 2024 — a span that speaks to both his durability and his continued relevance in a field that has transformed dramatically around him.

Oliff is perhaps best associated with the early Image Comics era, where his coloring on titles such as Spawn, The Maxx, Pitt, and Cyberforce helped define the bold, painted aesthetic that distinguished many of that publisher's flagship books in the 1990s. His work on The Maxx in particular demonstrated a willingness to use color as a storytelling tool rather than mere surface decoration, shifting palettes to distinguish the book's shifting realities. Earlier in his career he also contributed to Airboy, and later work included Strikeback!, among more than 260 credited issues across his career.

Olyoptics became synonymous with a computer-assisted coloring approach that was genuinely pioneering at the time, helping to move the industry away from flat, limited-palette production methods toward richer, more atmospheric possibilities. Oliff's long tenure places him among the most prolific and technically influential colorists in American mainstream comics.
