Marc Swayze

Marc Swayze, born Marcus Desha Swayze on July 17, 1913, in the United States, was a Golden Age comic book artist best known for his work on Captain Marvel and the Marvel Family at Fawcett Comics in New York City. He entered the field in 1941 and remained active through 1953. Swayze is credited as the co-creator of Mary Marvel, alongside writer Otto Binder; he produced the character’s first sketches and illustrated her debut in *Captain Marvel Adventures* #18 (December 1942), including her classic origin story. Over his career, he worked as an artist, inker, letterer, and writer on 62 issues, with notable credits spanning *Captain Marvel Adventures*, *Wow Comics*, *Flyin' Jenny*, and romance titles like *Romantic Secrets* and *Sweethearts*. His clean, dynamic style helped define the look of Fawcett’s superhero line. Swayze died on October 14, 2012, at age 99. While he did not receive major awards during his lifetime, his contributions to the Marvel Family legacy remain a key part of comic book history.
