A woman recovering from a severe ankle injury during physical therapy encounters a man named Don at a beach, where he proposes marriage to her. Jennifer initially accepts his romantic overtures and plans a life as a member of the Descartier household, but discovers that Don is primarily interested in her as a trophy wife rather than as a genuine partner. When Jennifer realizes Don is deceitful and unfaithful, she breaks their engagement, returns his ring, and resolves to live her own life independently rather than sacrifice her values for marriage.

I Worshipped Speed
10 pp · Romance

Barbara lives for the rush of speed, neglecting everything else—including a serious relationship—for the thrill of fast cars and reckless excitement. When her patient boyfriend Les finally reaches his breaking point, she impulsively picks up a charming drifter named Ricky Mailer, whose mechanical genius and wild nature offer her exactly the kind of danger she craves. As Barbara becomes consumed by her obsession with speed, she'll have to reckon with what she's willing to sacrifice for that intoxicating adrenaline.

Piper Laurie
1 pp · Non-Fiction, Biography

Born in Detroit and raised in Los Angeles, Piper Laurie's determination to break into acting led her to Universal-International after several studio rejections—her first picture alongside Ronald Reagan in *Louisa* launched a promising career. This biographical piece traces her early roles, from *The Milkman* with Donald O'Connor to her first starring turn in *The Prince Who Was a Thief*, while capturing her off-screen passions for horseback riding, painting, and the wisdom she'd share with aspiring performers.

For Reputation Only

A young woman dazzled by celebrity culture sees her chance at glamour when she meets Don Descartier, the son of a famous conductor, at a concert—and she's willing to abandon her devoted boyfriend Phil to chase an invitation into that glittering world. As Jennifer maneuvers her way into Don's circle of famous artists and personalities, her single-minded pursuit of status and recognition begins to show her true colors, and she soon discovers that the reputation she's so desperate to build comes at a far steeper price than she imagined.
