Joan’s father leaves her at an orphanage while he goes to “an institution” (for medical reasons) for eight years. She makes friends with Bob, another child. When Joan’s father reappears, he and Joan take an apartment together. Joan goes to work for Joseph’s dress company. Both Joseph and Bob court Joan. Joan wins a two-week vacation at a fancy resort and meets Franklyn there, but discovers he’s a gold-digger who thought she was rich. Later, Joseph tries to seduce her and Joan's father is unjustly arrested. Joan escapes from Joseph, her father is cleared and Joan marries Bob.
