Joe Pruett
Joe Pruett was born on January 8, 1966, in the United States. He is best known as a writer, editor, and publisher, and as the co-founder of both Desperado Publishing and AfterShock Comics. Pruett entered the comics industry in the late 1980s, working as an artist, inker, and letterer before focusing on writing and editorial roles. His most credited work includes the series *Kilroy Is Here*, as well as contributions to Marvel’s *Cable*, *Gambit & Bishop*, and *X-Men Unlimited*, and independent titles like *Flaming Carrot Comics* and *The Nameless*. Pruett’s style is marked by a sharp, character-driven approach to storytelling, often collaborating with artists such as Tom Mandrake and others on creator-owned projects. Among his notable co-creations is the series *The Lost Books of Eve*, though his broader legacy lies in his work as a publisher, where he helped bring independent and mid-list titles to wider audiences. Later in his career, Pruett continued to edit and publish through AfterShock, a company he co-founded in 2015, which became known for launching original series by established creators. He has not received major industry awards, but his influence is felt through his support of creator-owned comics and his long tenure in the field.
