Dave Hoover

Dave Hoover, born David Harold Hoover on May 14, 1955, was an American comics artist and animator best known for his work on DC Comics' *The Wanderers* and *Starman*, as well as Marvel Comics' *Captain America*. He passed away on September 4, 2011. Hoover entered the industry in the mid-1980s, bringing a clean, dynamic style to superhero storytelling that balanced action with character expression. His most prolific period came during the 1990s, where he became a regular artist on *Captain America*, often collaborating with writer Mark Gruenwald. At DC, he contributed to James Robinson's acclaimed *Starman* run, and he co-created the series *The Wanderers*. Hoover also worked on *Night Thrasher: Four Control* and *Uncanny Origins*, and his art appeared in *Marvel Comics Presents*. Over his career, he was credited as artist or inker on 89 issues, with his final credits extending posthumously into 2024. While he did not receive major industry awards during his lifetime, his work on *Starman* remains a touchstone for fans of that era.
