Arthur Peddy
Arthur F. Peddy was an American comic book and advertising artist, born on December 26, 1916, and passing on May 15, 2002. He is best remembered for co-creating the superhero Phantom Lady for Quality Comics and the jungle girl Jann of the Jungle for Atlas Comics. Peddy also penciled the Justice Society of America for what would become DC Comics. He entered the field in the late 1930s, during the Golden Age of comic books, and remained active into the 1970s before shifting focus to commercial art and advertising. His work spanned romance, adventure, and war genres, with notable credits on series like *Secret Hearts*, *Girls' Romances*, *Heart Throbs*, *Falling in Love*, *Girls' Love Stories*, and *Wings Comics*. A panel from one of his comics later inspired Roy Lichtenstein’s 1965 painting *Sound of Music*. Peddy’s career, marked by versatility and a clean, dynamic style, left a lasting imprint on the medium, though he never received major industry awards.
