Laura lies about having a sick father to get a job as a theatre usher. When bus driver Peter proposes marriage, Laura puts him off by claiming her father needs her income. Laura dates wealthy Andre, lying to him as well, and borrows money from Pete under false pretenses. However, Andre finally admits he has a fiancée and breaks up with Laura. Pete also dumps her when he learns she’s been cheating on him. Laura goes to work as a waitress to repay Pete’s money. They reconcile.
