Who is Loki?

Born the son of Frost Giant king Laufey, Loki was taken as an infant war prize by Odin and raised in Asgard as a prince alongside Thor. Overshadowed by his brother's might and glory, he embraced sorcery and cunning, becoming the God of Mischief and a perpetual schemer against both Thor and Asgard.

Few characters in Marvel's long history have proven as enduringly magnetic as Loki, the God of Mischief who slithered into comics legend with Journey into Mystery #85 in 1962, conjured by the legendary Silver Age trinity of Stan Lee, Larry Lieber, and Jack Kirby. Over an extraordinary 64-year run β€” one of the longest in superhero comics β€” Loki has woven through more than 600 catalog appearances, racking up an impressive 30 key issues that collectors prize, a testament to just how often this character lands at the center of something consequential. Most at home in the pages of Thor and Immortal Thor, Loki also haunts Avengers territory, sharing the page with titans like Thor Odinson, Captain America, Iron Man, and Spider-Man β€” the very best and brightest of the Marvel universe, which tells you everything about the scale on which this character operates. Whether you're a seasoned collector chasing those Silver Age keys or a newer fan discovering the depth of Marvel mythology, Loki is one of those rare figures whose presence across six decades never feels like anything less than essential.

Trivia

  • Loki holds the distinction of being the first villain to face the Avengers, and the delicious irony is that his own scheme is what accidentally triggered the team's formation in the first place.screenrant.com
  • According to Marvel's official comics history, Loki's plotting against Thor spectacularly backfired by inadvertently creating the Avengers, cementing him as a uniquely consequential early antagonist in the Marvel Universe.screenrant.com
  • Stan Lee has written more of Loki's comics than any other writer in our catalog β€” 72 issues.
