Who is Kimiyo Hoshi?

During the Crisis on Infinite Earths, the Monitor directed a beam of stellar energy from the star Vega directly at Japanese astronomer Kimiyo Hoshi, transforming her into a conduit for that star's near-limitless light. She emerged as the new Doctor Light, able to absorb and manipulate light in all its forms.

Born in the crucible of DC's most ambitious crossover event, Kimiyo Hoshi made her debut in Crisis on Infinite Earths #4 (1985) — a Bronze Age entrance that doesn't get much more consequential than that, with Marv Wolfman and George Pérez shepherding her into a universe-reshaping saga alongside Superman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, and Bruce Wayne himself. She's gone on to rack up appearances across Justice League of America, Justice League, and DC Comics: Bombshells, proving she's far more than a product of one historic moment. With three key issues to her name and a publishing history stretching an impressive four decades to 2026, Kimiyo Hoshi is a character whose staying power speaks for itself — a DC figure worth tracking down whether you're a Crisis completist or simply someone who appreciates a hero with genuine longevity and serious company on the page.
