“Bloodsport!”

From John Byrne's cover alone, you can feel the threat level — a snarling, heavily armed villain called Bloodsport levels an enormous cannon directly at the viewer, while Superman's cape and symbol are visible at the right edge, suggesting the Man of Steel is already in the thick of it. The tagline "He Plays for Keeps!" makes clear this isn't a routine confrontation, and Byrne's muscular linework gives Bloodsport a genuinely imposing presence. This April 1987 issue looks like a tense, street-level challenge for Superman that trades cosmic spectacle for something a little more personal and dangerous.
