About the series

From 1994 to 2000, DC’s The Books of Magic spun out of Neil Gaiman’s original miniseries into a long-running monthly series, following the young magician Timothy Hunter as he navigated a hidden world of sorcery, faerie, and dark bargains. Writers John Ney Rieber and artist Peter Gross anchored the book’s early years, crafting a coming-of-age fantasy that explored the cost of power and the blurry line between magic and madness. With a rotating art team that included Peter Snejbjerg and Gary Amaro, the series deepened the DC Universe’s magical corner, offering a quieter, more introspective counterpoint to the era’s superhero bombast.
