“The Scale (Slave of Heavens Part 2)”

Part two of "Slave of Heavens" arrives in this March 1998 installment of DC/Vertigo's ongoing magical series, with a cover by Michael Wm. Kaluta that captures young Tim Hunter curled in on himself atop a floating ring, head buried in his hands. Surrounding him is a breathtaking collision of worlds — a massive dragon looms to his left, while an angelic winged statue presides serenely to his right, and bird-like creatures swirl through the fiery atmosphere below. The imagery speaks volumes about Tim's precarious place between forces far larger than himself, making this a compelling chapter in John Ney Rieber and Peter Gross's run on the series.
