This 1997 Vertigo entry in John Ney Rieber and Peter Snejbjerg's ongoing run carries the evocative subtitle "Rites of Passage, Part Nine: Appearances," and Michael Wm. Kaluta's cover painting sets a fittingly otherworldly tone. A young girl with flowing dark hair appears to levitate or tumble through swirling flames above a coiling, tentacled creature, while below, a green-clad figure crouches amid a swarm of small, strange beings — a winged fairy-like creature hovering nearby — all rendered in Kaluta's lush, dreamlike linework. The image beautifully captures the series' blend of wonder and unease, making this an atmospheric chapter in Tim Hunter's magical journey.
