Wonder Woman #7
Wonder Woman Vol. 2 #7 (August 1987) serves as the closing chapter of the 'Gods and Mortals' arc — the foundational post-Crisis story that rebuilt Diana from scratch — while simultaneously planting the seed for what would become one of the character's most enduring antagonists. In civilian form only, Dr. Barbara Ann Minerva makes her debut here as an unscrupulous British archaeologist fixated on stealing Wonder Woman's Golden Lasso, setting up her transformation into the Post-Crisis incarnation of the Cheetah a few issues later. The issue also introduces Myndi Mayer, Diana's sharp-elbowed publicist, and the Amazon healer Epione, two supporting characters who would shape the texture of Pérez's long run. As the capstone of an arc that redefined Wonder Woman as a mythologically grounded, feminist character for the modern era, this issue marks the exact moment the Pérez relaunch pivoted from its origin story into the ongoing, villain-driven narrative that would sustain the title for years.

Wonder Woman Vol. 2 launched in 1987 as DC's post-Crisis on Infinite Earths reinvention of the character, with George Pérez serving as plotter and penciler after original scripter Greg Potter departed following issue #2. Len Wein stepped in as scripter — the arrangement in place for issue #7 — with Karen Berger editing the title throughout this era. Pérez had originally committed to only six months on the book, but the critical and commercial success of the relaunch extended his tenure to nearly five years. Issue #7's story, titled 'Rebirth!', was plotted and penciled by Pérez, scripted by Wein, inked by Bruce D. Patterson, colored by Tatjana Wood, and lettered by John Costanza, with a cover by Pérez.
