Wolverine #2
In "Mortal," Wolverine faces a terrifying new reality: his once-invincible healing factor has been stripped away by a Negative Zone virus, leaving him truly vulnerable for the first time. As he grapples with the emotional weight of mortality—every small cut now a source of dread—Nick Fury reveals a greater threat: the virus is spreading, and only one survivor remains, the mysterious Host, imprisoned in Wakanda. Written by Paul Cornell and illustrated by Mirco Pierfederici, with inks by Karl Kesel and colors by Andres Mossa, this issue captures Wolverine’s raw vulnerability with striking precision. The cover, by Alan Davis and Mark Farmer, perfectly frames the moment’s intensity.

The Beast confirms that Wolverine's healing factor has been totally wiped out by a Negative Zone virus and he is now completely mortal. This sends Wolverine into a mopey funk as he considers the possibility of his own death. Even a simple thing like cutting himself while shaving makes him nervous. While trying to deal with all of these new emotional issues, Fury tells him that the virus is still threatening to take over the world and has killed every meta-human who has control over viruses except for one. Her name is the Host and she is currently the prisoner of the Black Panther in Wakanda.
