About this Collection

This hardcover collects Walter Simonson's legendary run on Thor, a defining era that blended epic Norse mythology with cosmic Marvel adventure. It features the debut of Beta Ray Bill, the transformation of Thor into a frog, and the fiery return of Surtur, with Simonson's bold storytelling and art reshaping the God of Thunder's world.

In "Doom!", Thor follows a mysterious lead from an old woman to a floating castle, where the real Balder may be trapped—after a past hero’s desperate rescue went terribly wrong. Walter Simonson’s epic tale, illustrated with bold precision by Sal Buscema and brought to life with rich colors by Christie Scheele and Steve Oliff, unfolds with mythic weight and a sense of urgent discovery. The cover, penciled and inked by Simonson himself, captures the storm-laden mystery of the journey ahead.

Finding the Balder in Asgard to be false (which is a good thing since Kurse killed him), Thor sets out to find the real deal. Balder, in the recent past, stormed a floating castle to save a trio of damsels from a troll, only to be put under their spell for his troubles. In the here and now, Thor is pointed to the same castle by an old woman.
