The Transformers #37
The cover of this 1988 Marvel issue says it all with its twin teasers — "Mayhem at the Mall!" and "Suburban Shootout!" — as a young blond teenager sprints in panic while two massive red Predacon beast-formers bear down on him from either side, a black-and-yellow aerial Transformer swooping in from above. Racing cars in purple, blue, and green skid across the foreground, adding to the suburban chaos unfolding before a crowd of horrified bystanders. José Delbo, Ian Akin, and Brian Garvey deliver a cover that captures the breathless, anything-can-happen energy of Bob Budiansky's run on the series.

With the Predacons and Constructicons on a rampage, the US government decides to send a message to all Transformers and publicly destroy their captive Throttlebots. However, Walter Barnett secretly removes the Throttlebots brain modules, and inserts them into six toy racing cars in the hope of saving them. At the request of Goldbug, Walter seeks out Buster Witwicky so that Buster can return them to the Ark, but when they arrive they find the main Ark gone and no Autobots to be found.
