Who is Mumbly?

Mumbly is a Hanna-Barbera cartoon dog known for his distinctive mumbling laugh, originally a detective character who later joined the villainous Really Rottens team in the animated series Laff-A-Lympics. He made his comics debut alongside fellow Hanna-Barbera stars in Marvel's Scooby-Doo #1.

Mumbly is a delightful piece of Bronze Age animation-to-comics history, debuting in Scooby-Doo #1 in 1977 under the Marvel banner β€” a collector-worthy first issue if there ever was one. This Hanna-Barbera favorite found a natural home on the page alongside an all-star roster of cartoon legends: Huckleberry Hound, Yogi Bear, Quick Draw McGraw, Dynomutt, and Scooby-Doo himself. With 38 catalog appearances spread across Laff-A-Lympics, Scooby-Doo, and The Flintstones, Mumbly punched well above his weight in the late-'70s funny-animal comics scene, and two of those appearances carry key-issue recognition for sharp-eyed collectors. A short but spirited Bronze Age run that captures the era's infectious, anything-goes energy β€” and a genuinely fun find for anyone who loves the golden age of Saturday morning translated into ink and paper.
