Amazing Spider-Man #62 marks the first meeting between Spider-Man and Medusa, bringing a major Inhuman Royal — created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in Fantastic Four #36 (1965) — into the Spider-Man corner of the Marvel Universe for the first time. The crossover underscored Marvel's late-1960s practice of weaving its shared universe tightly together, using Spider-Man's title as a promotional platform for Inhuman characters who had yet to earn their own ongoing series. Beyond the superhero clash, the issue quietly advances one of the most consequential slow-burn subplots of the Silver Age: Norman Osborn's gradual recovery of his suppressed Green Goblin memories, a thread that would eventually lead to the death of Gwen Stacy. The issue was written by Stan Lee, with layouts by John Romita Sr. and finished pencils by Don Heck, inked by Mike Esposito (credited as Mickey Demeo), and lettered by Sam Rosen — the standard division-of-labor approach Marvel used during this period to keep its prolific output on schedule. Medusa's appearance coincided almost exactly with Marvel Super-Heroes #15, a one-shot that headlined the Inhuman queen the same month, suggesting Lee was deliberately cross-promoting the character in multiple titles simultaneously. The cover, penciled and designed by Romita, depicts the staged brawl between Spider-Man and Medusa that drives the story's satirical subplot about a hair-spray executive manipulating superhumans for an advertising campaign.
