About this Collection

This volume collects issues #23-43 of The Amazing Spider-Man, along with material from the 1964 Annual #2, covering the classic Lee/Ditko and early Lee/Romita era. Key storylines include the first appearances of the Green Goblin, the introduction of the Molten Man, and the dramatic conclusion of the original Master Planner saga. Presented in Marvel's black-and-white Essential format, it offers an affordable way to experience these foundational Spider-Man tales.

In "Where Crawls the Lizard!", Peter Parker steps away from his web-slinging duties, trading the mask for a quiet college life after a string of personal struggles. But when a discarded suit ends up on display at the Daily Bugle and crime surges in his absence, Peter must confront the weight of his choices—and the legacy of Uncle Ben—once more. Written by Stan Lee and illustrated by John Romita with inks by Mickey Demeo, the story features dynamic art and a pivotal moment in Peter’s journey, all captured in a cover by John Romita Sr.

Fearing for his aunt's health and tired of being hounded by Jameson, Peter gives up being Spider-Man and concentrates on being a simple college student. A kid finds the discarded Spidey suit in the trash can and brings it to the Daily Bugle where Jonah proudly puts it on display. Pete's personal life starts looking up but crime increases as the Kingpin gathers the mob under his leadership. Feeling guilty about the crime wave, Peter remembers the lessons taught to him by his uncle's death and decides to become Spider-Man once again.
