There's something quietly heartbreaking about this 1972 cover: a massive Spider-Man looms over a city street full of brawling, armed figures — and rather than diving in, he's turning away, his speech bubbles reading "Go on, world! Hurt each other — kill each other — do anything you want! I just don't care any more!" It's a striking, unusually emotional image for a superhero cover, rendered with real weight by penciler and inker John Romita (with inks also by Tony Mortellaro).
