About this Collection

This omnibus completes Marvel's definitive hardcover collection of every Miguel O'Hara story, gathering Peter David's full modern return to the character across two relaunched ongoing series (2014 and 2015) alongside surrounding crossover material. The volume preserves the first appearances of the entire Avengers 2099 roster — including the corporatized Captain America Roberta Mendez — introduced in David's Secret Wars 2099 tie-in, characters who later migrated into the main 2099 continuity. It also captures the narrative moment where Miguel, stranded in the present day, wrestles with whether a future-born hero can rewrite history from within, a thematic engine that drove two-plus years of storytelling and deepened the 2099 imprint's long-running critique of unchecked corporate power. Taken together with Omnibus Vol. 1, this collection closes the loop on the entire original creative vision for Spider-Man 2099, from the character's 1992 debut through his 2010s resurrection.

History

The material gathered here grew directly out of Dan Slott's 2013 'Necessary Evil' arc in Superior Spider-Man, which left Miguel O'Hara stranded in the present-day Marvel Universe — a narrative handoff that gave David a built-in premise for the 2014 relaunch without requiring readers to have followed the original 1990s run. David returned to a character he co-created, deliberately echoing the classic Marvel 'man out of time' framework (nodding openly to Captain America) while embedding Miguel inside the nascent Alchemax corporation, giving him corporate-spy stakes alongside superhero action. The Secret Wars 2099 miniseries, also written by David and drawn primarily by Will Sliney, was a 2015 event tie-in that expanded the 2099 world rather than just spotlighting the lead character. Marvel released the omnibus on April 2, 2024, exactly one year after Omnibus Vol. 1, completing a two-volume hardcover project that collects material previously scattered across multiple trade paperbacks.

  • Written primarily by Peter David (co-creator of Spider-Man 2099), with art principally by Will Sliney; cover art for the direct market edition by Simone Bianchi and the variant by Pasqual Ferry.
  • The 2014 series launched directly from the pages of Amazing Spider-Man, with Miguel O'Hara stranded in the present day after the events of Superior Spider-Man's 'Necessary Evil' storyline.
  • Miguel's central conflict in the modern-day setting is working undercover inside the newly formed Alchemax corporation — the same megacorporation that will oppress 2099 — in an attempt to reform it from within before its corruption can take root.
  • Secret Wars 2099 #1 (2015) marks the first appearance of the Avengers 2099, including Roberta Mendez as Captain America, Iron Man (Sonny Frisco), Black Widow (Tania), Hawkeye (Max), and Hercules — a new corporate-controlled hero team operating in the 2099 Battleworld domain.
  • The Captain Marvel (1999) #27–30 'Time Flies' arc included here is Peter David's 'Future Tense' storyline, which revisited Spider-Man 2099 and the Maestro's alternate future, resolving a plot thread left unfinished when David abruptly departed the original series in the 1990s.
  • The Spider-Verse crossover (represented via tie-in material in the 2014 series) places Miguel alongside other Spider-totems confronting the Inheritors, cementing his role in the broader Spider-Man mythology beyond his solo continuity.
  • The hardcover omnibus runs 1,256 pages, released April 2, 2024, with ISBN 9781302953836; it is the second and concluding volume of Marvel's complete Spider-Man 2099 omnibus project, pairing with Vol. 1 (April 2023) to cover the entire 1992–2015 publication history of the character.
