Erik Larsen wrote, pencilled, and inked the issue entirely himself, as was standard for the ongoing series — one of the distinguishing creative commitments that would eventually make Savage Dragon the longest-running full-color American comic book produced by a single writer-artist. The issue was lettered by Chris Eliopoulos and colored by Reuben Rude and Steve Oliff, with Jannie Wong serving as editor. It arrived in 1995, a year of significant franchise expansion: the animated series premiered on the USA Network's Cartoon Express that same year, produced by Universal Cartoon Studios, and directly drew on characters and plotlines — including Horde and She-Dragon — that Larsen had been developing in the comic.
