Planet of the Apes #11
Marvel's Planet of the Apes #11 (August 1975) arrives with a striking cover by Gray Morrow — a triumphant, armed ape soldier stands astride a fallen human figure, rifle raised to a lightning-cracked sky, while two more apes advance through a wintry landscape behind him. The tagline says it all: "Ape and Man at War..." as the story "When the Lawgiver Returns!" unfolds inside, written by Doug Moench with art by Mike Ploog and lettering by John Costanza. It's a charged, atmospheric package that captures everything unsettling and compelling about this post-apocalyptic world where, as the masthead reminds us, man once stood supreme — now rule the apes.
