Planet of the Apes #10
The cover of this 1975 Marvel magazine-format issue sets the mood vividly: a robed, mutant figure stands arms outstretched before a swirling psychedelic vortex while armed apes recoil in awe and alarm on the steps below, and a pair of humans cling together in the background — all of it teasing the "Apes Versus Mutant Mind-Power!" confrontation promised in the "Beneath the Planet of the Apes" banner. Bob Larkin's painted cover artwork gives the scene a genuinely unsettling, otherworldly atmosphere that suits the series' pulpy sci-fi horror tone perfectly. Inside, Doug Moench continues "Kingdom on an Island of the Apes: Part II" with art from Walt Simonson and Rico Rival, making this a solid installment in Marvel's ambitious black-and-white Planet of the Apes run.
