Master of Kung Fu #34

There's something wonderfully strange about this November 1975 cover — a shirtless Shang-Chi leaps through a swarm of life-sized toy soldiers wielding rifles and bayonets, all set against the spired silhouette of a castle, with the cover blurb promising he's "trapped on an island where harmless toys become deadly weapons!" Gil Kane's pencils and Dan Adkins' inks give the scene a kinetic, almost surreal energy, perfectly capturing the odd menace of the subtitle "Captive in a Madman's Crown!" Inside, writer Doug Moench and artist Paul Gulacy bring their own considerable talents to bear — making this a fine example of Marvel's martial-arts series firing on all cylinders in the mid-'70s.
