Marmaduke Mouse #62

Marmaduke Mouse is in full comedic peril on this July 1956 cover from Quality Comics — the little mouse tears along on red roller skates, red-gloved arms windmilling for balance, heading straight for a puddle of spilled tar in front of two open barrels. Hot on his heels is a sharply dressed fox in a purple jacket and red cap, looking none too pleased about the whole situation. It's the kind of breezy, slapstick summer energy that made this series such a delight for young readers, and at a dime a copy it was hard to beat.
