Marmaduke Mouse has a busy day at the beach, where he encounters Pudgy Pig at a hot dog stand and later agrees to a race against Solly and Taffy Turtle for the title of mayor, with the course running around Huckleberry Mountain through the woods to a stream. During the race, Marmaduke attempts to cheat by using a shortcut down the side of a tall building, but he falls through various levels and gets tangled in ropes and pipes, ultimately landing on a log that carries him to the finish line. Though Marmaduke reaches the finish first, he declines to fight Solly in a confrontation after the race, choosing instead to leave the scene.
