Legion of Super-Heroes #7
This February 1985 issue throws the Legion headlong into chaos, with the cover by Steve Lightle and Larry Mahlstedt depicting a sprawling, kinetic battle scene packed with Legionnaires — Superboy charging forward in red, a robotic figure erupting with energy blasts, a yellow-haired hero in magenta, and several others caught in a multi-front struggle against a massive tentacled creature looming overhead and an army of mechanical adversaries. The sheer density of combatants and the explosive bursts of fire and pink energy clouds give the whole thing a wonderfully overwhelming sense of scale. Paul Levitz's "A Choice of Dooms" promises exactly the kind of high-stakes ensemble storytelling that made this era of the Legion so compelling.
