Legion of Super-Heroes #3

The Giffen/Mahlstedt cover for this October 1984 installment is a wonderfully chaotic splash of super-powered mayhem, with a red-and-gold Legionnaire leaping through the center while teammates — including a glowing energy-wielder, a figure in white, and several others — clash against a swarm of threats on all sides. Down in the foreground, two characters grapple in close combat, giving the whole composition a sense of battle erupting on every front — perfectly suited to a story titled "Everywhere a Villain...?" Paul Levitz and Keith Giffen were deep into one of the Legion's most celebrated creative runs by 1984, and this issue delivers the densely populated, kinetic energy that made the series such a compelling read.
