Legion of Super-Heroes #4
The cover of this November 1984 issue is a striking, unsettling image — a limp hand reaching downward from dark, dripping fabric, fingers nearly brushing another grasping hand rising from below, both hovering over what appears to be a framed hourglass on the ground. Penciled by Keith Giffen and inked by Larry Mahlstedt, it's a haunting composition that trades superhero spectacle for quiet dread, letting the tension speak through stillness and shadow. With Paul Levitz and Giffen co-writing and Steve Lightle contributing interior art, "Lest Villainy Triumph" promises the kind of thoughtful, atmospheric storytelling that made this Legion run so memorable in 1984.
