The cover of this January 1992 issue says it all with blunt mathematical clarity: two snarling villains — a wild-maned, red-eyed menace and a pink-skinned brute — are presented like a grim equation, their sum being a pile of Justice League members sprawled unconscious across the bottom of the page. Part 11 of the "Breakdowns" arc, this chapter (titled "Mayhem") delivers exactly what that equation promises, with Giffen and DeMatteis scripting and a striking cover by Chris Sprouse and Bruce Patterson that strips away every distraction to make its point in stark, unsettling fashion.
