Coming in the wake of the "Invincible War," this 2009 Image Comics issue launches "Conquest Part One" with a cover that captures Mark Grayson bloodied, grimacing, and charging forward through a landscape of shattered debris, wrecked vehicles, and rubble — the aftermath written all over him. Ryan Ottley's cover art puts the hero's raw determination front and center, fists clenched against what looks like an overwhelming tide of destruction. It's a vivid, visceral snapshot of a hero pushed to his limits, written by Robert Kirkman with colors by FCO Plascencia bringing the chaos to vivid, gritty life.
