Invincible #23

A red-jacketed figure with a single eye and pointed alien features holds court at what appears to be a bustling intergalactic diner, surrounded by a wonderfully bizarre array of extraterrestrial patrons — blue-furred creatures, green-skinned beings, and a hulking armored figure — all set against a sweeping star-filled backdrop. Ryan Ottley's cover work for this 2005 Image series does a great job signaling that Kirkman's story is heading somewhere far beyond Earth's atmosphere. With "This Missive, This Machination!" as the interior title, issue #23 promises intrigue wrapped in a universe that's as wide and weird as any in superhero comics.
