Invincible #119

Few superhero comics dare to pause the world-saving for something this quietly human: the cover by Ryan Ottley places Mark and Eve in what appears to be an alien urgent-care waiting room, anxiously tending to their feverish infant while an assortment of bizarre extraterrestrial creatures fill the seats and chaos brews just beyond the emergency door behind them. The tagline at the bottom — "When Mark and Eve met in issue 2, did you think they'd end up here? Crazy, right?" — perfectly captures how far this series has traveled from its origins by 2015. It's a warmly clever image that reminds you Invincible has always been as much about growing up as it is about punching things.
